Event Highlights

DevGAMM Game Fest 2022 took place on November 23-25, and it was the first-ever online festival from our team dedicated entirely to games and developers.

242 games from 43 countries were submitted to DevGAMM Game Fest, which is a smashing record number for our events!

Game Fest was sponsored by Archibaldi, a creative studio specializing in original music, sound design, and voice-over for video games.

DEVGAMM AWARDS

During the three stages of the voting process, more than 50 professionals evaluated game titles of various genres and chose 22 nominees from 17 countries. The $20,000 prize pool brought by Xsolla and tinyBuild was split among the winners in 8 categories.

Also, this edition of the Awards featured five special nominations from the sponsor companies: Unreal Engine, Nvidia, Ravenage, Versus Evil, and Gameowdio.

On November 25, the winners were announced at the exciting ceremony featuring Ilari Kuittinen (Housemarque), Fawzi Mesmar, Chelsea Blasko (Iron Galaxy), Daniel Mullins (Daniel Mullins Games), Anne-Sophie Mongeau (Eidos Montreal), and other game industry celebrities.

The winner of the Grand Prize is The Wandering Village by Stray Fawn Studio, and Lost in Play by Happy Juice Games is the Best Indie Game.

STREAMING SHOWCASE

During three festival days, online streamers were playing 176 games on Twitch and having the time of their lives! Altogether, the incredible ten bloggers scored 80+ hours of gameplay!

LIVE INTERVIEWS

49 developers of festival games were starring in three-day live broadcasts on YouTube, which had 4k+ viewers. The developers presented gameplay, told the stories behind their projects, and shared some interesting facts about the development process.

Over the three days, live broadcasts on YouTube were hosted by Christie Moulding (tinyBuild), Tom Brien (tinyBuild), Ricardo Correia (Indie X), and the folks from DevGAMM team.

The broadcasts also featured a fireside chat on success stories of collaboration between publishers and developer teams. Those Awesome Guys, Kowloon Nights, and Versus Evil joined the discussion, Borys Trienin, remote control productions, was the host.

Day 1 also brought the panel discussion on how to impress publishers and VC funds and make the most of such collaboration. Experts from Secret Mode, The Games Fund, and Ravenage joined. Katerina Burbela, remote control productions, hosted the event.

STEAM SHOWCASE

154 games from the festival and a few previous DevGAMM events were featured in the special section on STEAM. We’ve gathered over 3.5 million views of this page, and that’s just incredible!

WHAT’S NEXT?

As announced at the DevGAMM Awards, in 2023 DevGAMM team will hold its first-ever event in Poland! Meet us in the gorgeous city of Gdańsk in the very first days of spring – March 1-2.

DevGAMM Fall 2021 Final Report

On November 17-19, DevGAMM came back in an online format. It was an extremely productive, action-packed, and amazing event. Let’s look back and go over the conference highlights.

DevGAMM team opened the conference giving an overview of key activities from 5 different countries. If you missed the opening, go ahead and watch it now

Content

The event virtually gathered 90 speakers from 20 countries who presented sessions in 10 topic tracks. Among them were:

Warren Spector, creator of the iconic Deus Ex title;
Thomas Beekers from inXile studio, who has worked on Wasteland 2 and 3;
Anne-Sophie Mongeau and Philip Eriksson from Hazelight, who created sound design for It Takes Two;
Yuliya Chernenko from Owlcat Games that unraveled the secrets behind the making of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous;
Alden Kroll, Kaci Aitchison Boyle, and Tom Giardino from Valve, who covered the questions from developers about Steam features;
Dmitry Yashanov from tinyBuild that shared a success story of Potion Craft.

On top of that, there were 3 panel discussions dedicated to education in the video games industry, new Unreal Engine 5 features, the uncertain future of mobile free-to-play games, and consolidation of the ads market.

In total, our three virtual stages hosted speakers from Microsoft, Rovio Entertainment, SuperScale, Wargaming, Xsolla, Sperasoft, Values Value, Belka Games as well as other game companies and studios.

The conference sponsors held extra activities in the Industry Expo, such as live pitches, lectures on employment, Q&A sessions with the company’s team, etc. The attendees had a chance to stop by the virtual booths of Unreal Engine, tinyBuild, Globant, Nexters, Values Values, and InGame Job.

Networking

The online format offers just as many opportunities to meet and talk with new people as the offline one. Everyone who attended DevGAMM Fall 2021 had a chance to see it with their own eyes.

We had 7 roundtables – closed discussions of the burning industry topics between 10-12 experts. This time, the tables were focused on salaries, depression and productivity, metaverse, investments, and other things. Professionals from Xsolla, Values Value, Harpy Media, and other companies fulfilled the roles of moderators.

On the first day of the event, we held Random Networking where attendees could have 5-minute video calls with random people.

Developers and publishers had their own activity with random meetings called Speed Game Dating. We divided it into mobile and desktop streams for convenience.

To make it easier to look for publishers, we created a dedicated list of the most active ones, the Publisher List. Developers were able to schedule meetings with publishers right from there to introduce their projects.

Even though the conference was meant to be entirely online, an additional offline event took place in Minsk. Hosted in a comfy META ARENA space for cybersport events, it offered a chance to watch the event activities, meet with the game dev community, and even grab a DevGAMM cocktail.

Games

Games Hub featured 185 titles from 39 world countries serving as a virtual showcase where you could find information about some fresh projects. Developers took part in gaming activities to demonstrate their projects to the attendees and even more.

The traditional game reviews ran in 4 tracks: game design, marketing, audio, and art. Experts in relevant fields analyzed 24 games and shared their best advice for making them better.

This time, we had as many as 12 game bloggers streaming new projects at Streaming Showcase. With the support of HypeFactory , B_U_L_O_C_H_K_A, Tomatos, TianKami, RoadHouse, ArtGamesLP, Jeens and mooniverse. had a chance to play through games. There were also such streamers as Amiko-chan, Holodilnick, ah0ra, Ducat and Ruslan_maybe. In total, they tested 125 newly launched titles.

Public Pitch

The qualification phase started a month before the conference. Once a week, game industry experts would gather to review 4 developer pitches and select the one that has the best potential.

The finalists presented their improved pitches live and experts from Bossa Studio, The Games Fund, Achievers Hub, tinyBuild picked the best one. The pitch for Dwarven Skykeep made by Hack The Publisher bore the palm this time.

DevGAMM Awards

We received 148 submissions to the prestigious competition between developers. Three judging rounds later with more than 60 judges involved, we got 30 game nominees from 15 different countries.

The prize money at DevGAMM Awards stood at $40,000 thanks to our sponsors tinyBuild, Xsolla, Green Grey and GEM Capital.

Warren Spector, Thomas Beekers, Alisa Chumachenko, and other special guests have announced the winners at the online grand ceremony. Batora: Lost Haven by Stormind Games took the Grand Prize.

Career opportunities

Career Wall featured over 200 vacancies at Xsolla, Black Caviar Games, Ubisoft, Vizor, Game Insight, Playrix, tinyBuild, Globant, MYTONA, G5 Games, and other companies and game studios. We picked them together with our conference partner inGame Job.

Livestreams

Hosts from three top game media went live every day to talk about new games and interview developers! Over the three days of 8-hour livestreams, developers of over 70 newly launched projects had their time in the spotlight!

Чем запомнился DevGAMM Moscow 2021

Конференция прошла на полтора года позже запланированного – но DevGAMM все-таки смог и вернулся в Москву! А мы рассказываем, чем запомнилась первая за почти два года офлайн-конференция – кратко.

Лекции и мастер-классы

Несмотря на закрытые границы, в отеле Radisson Slavyanskaya прошли 38 лекций от экспертов из VK, Wargaming, Playrix, MY.GAMES, Pixonic, Creative Mobile, Sperasoft, Belka Games и других классных компаний.

Отдельно стоит упомянуть беседу с Виктором Савюком, который погрузил в ностальгию по приставке Dendy, как всегда эмоциональное выступление Альберта Жильцова из 1C Game Studios о буднях креативного продюсера и целое представление от Антона Волкова из Hive, ради которого пришлось переоформить главную сцену!

Нетворкинг

Места за 15 круглыми столами в этот раз разлетелись как свеженькие плойки! Они прошли в три потока, на которых обсуждали проблемы технарей, будущее жанра ММО, геймдизайн на аутсорсе и другие жаркие темы. А модераторами стали профессионалы из Ciliz::W4, Owl Studio, AppQuantum, devtodev, Pixonic и другие. Благодарим спонсора круглых столов – компанию Easybrain.

Games Garage – абсолютно новая активность, которую провела компания Ravenage. Всего за день прошли больше 150 индивидуальных консультаций с топовыми экспертами из Wargaming, Fat Pony, Belka Games, Azur Games, Borscht и другими!

Конечно же, нельзя не упомянуть 940 встреч, который подтвердили через систему встреч в PINE. И это только официально – а сколько смол-токов и радостных обнимашек было на самой конференции! Здорово, что мы наконец смогли собраться вместе.

Традиционные активности

Главные звезды конференции – разработчики – тоже получили свою минуту славы. Почти 80 разных проектов показали на шоукейсе, причем в первый и второй дни игры были разные! Всех участников шоукейса можно посмотреть здесь.

В экспо-зоне разместились несколько десятков стендов с увлекательными активностями. Здесь были представители Wargaming, VK Games, Vizor Games, Azur Games, Playrix, WannaPlay, MYTONA и других классных компаний!

Тем веселее был квест! Участники могли пройти на выбор задания из двух веток, чтобы побороться за 30 призов, среди которых были Xbox, PlayStation 5, Oculus Quest 2 и Apple Watch SE! Всего в квесте участвовали 373 человека.

При поддержке Pixonic на Стене вакансий расположились 210 предложений о трудоустройстве от топовых компаний геймдева. Найти и разместить предложения о работе помогли портал InGame Job и компания Values Value.

Мы так скучали по Game Roast, и он вернулся! В этот раз прожаривали игры Слава Лукьяненко, Максим Фомичев, Азамат Байзулаев и Михаил Чупраков. А провел самую безумную активность конференции верховный гриль-мастер – Алекс Ничипорчик.

Это надо было видеть!

Наконец, в живом формате вернулся и магазин с официальным мерчом из лимитированной коллекции Niko Firm. На нем сиял маскот конференции – хамелеон Стив, которого создала студия Chameleon 42. Читайте историю его создания здесь.

Вечеринки

Конференция началась накануне первого дня конференции – на пре-пати при поддержке tinyBuild. Несмотря на очереди, мы смогли пропустить всех и повеселиться под музыку Стаса Полеско с напитками и бургерами!

Главная вечеринка при поддержке Антона Волкова дала еще один повод для новых знакомств и встреч со старыми друзьями. Она стала своеобразной «точкой сборки» для новых невероятных проектов.

А завершил конференцию традиционный прощальный мингл при поддержке tinyBuild. Под звуки разбирающихся стендов и сворачивающихся ковров мы обнимались друг с другом на прощание за бутылкой пенного. Будем грустить до следующего DevGAMM

DevGAMM Spring 2021 Highlights

The first DevGAMM event in 2021 took place on May 12-14, again in the online format.

This time, we beat all records: over 3,800 attendees have registered for the conference! We had 109 speakers and 201 game submissions from 37 countries across all the event activities. Let’s see how it all went!

Sessions and Workshops

At DevGAMM Spring 2021, we hosted ten themed tracks, including our first-ever tracks on Community management, Project management, and in collaboration with Values Value – Talents & Ethics track.

Sessions were delivered by such celebrity speakers as narrative designer Rhianna Pratchett, Steam’s business team, Stuart Macdonald from Remedy Entertainment, Marc Lericolais from Douze Dixiemes, Jamie Smith from Sumo Digital, Bálint Varga from The Wild Gentlemen, and lots of others.

Overall, the three stages of our online conference have seen speakers from Google, Wargaming.net, Xsolla, Belka Games, Voodoo, tinyBuild, MY.GAMES, Pixonic, G5 Games, Kefir, ironSource, and dozens of other game companies and studios.

Sponsors ran additional activities at their virtual booths within the Industry Expo. Guys from tinyBuild, Wargaming, Alawar, RoasUp, Values Value, InGame Job engaged in live discussions with attendees, held workshops, and even listened to game pitches.

Roundtables gathered up to 10 industry professionals for burning topic discussions. In total, we had 10 roundtables in three days where people talked about publishers on Steam, f2p game launch, future of gamedev, LiveOps, and other things. Among the moderators were experts from Pixonic, PSV Game Studio, META Publishing, Belka Games, and other companies.

Game activities

Developers presented more than 100 different games at Virtual Showcase. The attendees had a chance to check out materials about new projects and have a live chat with their makers.

Every day, we held Review Sessions in Game Design, Marketing, and Art. Experts in the relevant fields analyzed new projects and suggested ways to make them better.

For three conference days, bloggers showed 90 new games at the Streaming Showcase. Among the streamers who joined the event and streamed games on their Twitch and YouTube channels were Amiko-сhan, Ruslan_maybe, Mr Holodilnick, and several more thanks to the support of HypeFactory: MJRAMON, Noizen, Rubendahause, and k_i_r_a.

We had a live final of the Public Pitch competition preceded by 4 qualifying rounds that took place in April and May. Experts from Bossa Studios, remote control production, Those Awesome Guys, and tinyBuild watched the revised presentations of projects and determined the winner: the developers of Eonica Chess Battle from StandArts studio.

Networking and Employment

Traditionally, all the business meetings were held in PINE. We’ve added to the platform’s Publisher Cafe section the contact details of 30+ most active publishers and investors eager to discover new games.

Random Networking was organized with the support of Skillbox, where attendees had 5-minute calls with a randomly picked person.

We also held two Speed Game Dating tracks divided into mobile and desktop. Developers and publishers had a chance to find each other randomly, introduce themselves, and continue the talk in a regular video call. Publishers from Buka Entertainment, Creative Mobile, Nordcurrent, Kefir, G5 Entertainment, and others took part in the activity.

The conference attendees had access to the Career Wall placed on InGame Job portal where they could discover new job opportunities. It featured over 150 job vacancies at tinyBuild, Wargaming, Vizor, Melsoft, Belka Games, MYTONA, and other companies.

Parties

On the first conference day, we gave our own online party in Party.Space’s stylish nightclub space. And on the last day of the event, Games Industry Gathering held a 12-hour party that gathered gamedev representatives from all over the world!

It was the first time in 18 months that DevGAMM threw an offline party. It took place on May 15 in Moscow and gathered more than 300 people who were happy to reunite with their old friends and make new ones. See the photos from DevGAMM Moscow Party on our Facebook page.

Live streams

DevGAMM Spring 2021 became the first event where we had three live stream collaborations with three different game media: Igromania, DTF, and Disgusting Men. The first two were sponsored by Ten Square Games and tinyBuild.

During live streams, hosts talked with developers of more than 50 games presented at the conference, went over gameplay, and engaged in discussions with sponsors and the DevGAMM team. Altogether, Twitch and YouTube streams collected over 150,000 views in three days!

DevGAMM Awards

In keeping with the best traditions, online DevGAMM Awards ceremony became the conference’s grand finale. More than 100 game industry experts voted for the best projects! This time, we had 23 games from 17 countries nominated in 8 categories, and a $40,000 prize money brought by the sponsors tinyBuild, Xsolla, Green Grey, and GEM Capital, was shared among the winners.

The Grand Prize, as well as Best Desktop Game title, went to the developers from EXOR Studios for The Riftbreaker. The project Until We Die developed by Pixeye Games won as the Best Indie Game.

DevGAMM 2020 Highlights

On November 9-20, DevGAMM team held the first two-week conference in the online format. During week one, our focus was on all the aspects of game making, and week two was dedicated to business and networking. Let’s see how it all went.

Content

DevGAMM 2020 has been literally worldwide! This time, 8 themed tracks included 77 sessions with speakers from Brazil, China, USA, Sweden, UK, and over a dozen countries more.

At this event, we hosted our first-ever Unreal Engine track, and, thanks to the support of DevRel.Events, set up 4 Fireside Chats with industry professionals. Overall, the conference featured talks by the representatives of EA DICE, Wooga, Ubisoft RedLynx, Playrix, tinyBuild, Pixonic, Google, Snapchat, MY.GAMES, BoomBit, and lots of other companies and game studios.

The live-streaming of sessions was sponsored by Wargaming.

We also held 4 Review Sessions in Game Design, Art, Audio, and Marketing categories. The experts in relevant fields reviewed certain aspects of games and suggested ways of making them much cooler. When the sessions were over, developers moved to a special Off-Record Q&A room, where they could ask the experts additional questions.

Networking

Traditionally, the event was held on PINE platform: using the online meeting system under the support of Xsolla, attendees made more than 500 video calls.

This time, we held a few hour-long Random Networking sessions every day. As a result, owing to the support of Skillbox, the randomly picked attendees have met each other in 5-minute meetings over 300 times in two weeks. We divided the sessions by themes, so at various times one could hear discussions of game engines and the future of gamedev, as well as sharing lockdown experiences and longing for offline events.

An extra serving of networking opportunities was brought by Mentors Dialogue, which took place during the first week of the conference. We divided 57 experts based on their activity and field of expertise allowing the attendees to send them requests, have video calls, ask questions, and use their exclusive attainments.

The second week of the event had seven closed roundtables with discussions of burning topics such as hyper casual gaming trends, COVID-19’s impact on the industry, and 2021 year forecasts. One of the roundtables even crystallized into a generally useful post.

Games

The projects we’ve seen at this event were really strong: Games Hub received 131 game submissions from 25 countries!

As part of our preparation for DevGAMM 2020, the activity all of you know was given a complete makeover since May to become Public Pitch 2.0. This time, during the first round industry experts were reviewing the pre-recorded video pitches from 14 developers and giving their advice on making them better. The top 4 pitches proceeded to the final that took place on the last day of the event.

The finalists presented their reworked pitches live. In the end, the panel of judges from CD Projekt Red, gamigo, Those Awesome Guys, MGVC, and META Publishing, decided that the best pitch was the one delivered by Happy Volcano team, which developed the You Suck At Parking project. Those guys even received an offer from the publisher right there, during the live stream!

We had another Streaming Showcase, a format where gaming bloggers test projects in front of their viewers and conference attendees. This time we invited Rami Ismail, Amiko-chan, Mr Holodilnick as our streamers, as well as LookinPlay, PHombie, and Tomatos with the support of HypeFactory. Altogether they live-streamed over 70 games in 50 hours!

Virtual Showcase was a special opportunity for everyone who wanted to have a chit-chat with developers and check out their games. In total, there were 83 developer booths. And Industry Expo yet again served as a venue for the conference partners’ booths. For example, guys from MYTONA organized extra activities and shared interesting stories at their booth, and tinyBuild set up a live stream where developers could pitch their projects to the company producers!

Publisher Cafe by Belka Games presented another great opportunity. It featured a convenient list of the most active publishers and investors for developers’ use: they could request meetings with them to discover new prospects for their games.

A special sale on Steam – DevGAMM Steam Showcase – became our exclusive cherry on the cake. It was a selection of 39 games from this and our previous conferences available at up to a 76% discount, as well as free game demos and projects in development. The sale lasted for the whole 5 days.

Live-streaming and award ceremonies

During the last two days, there was an official live stream organized with the support of Unreal Engine and hosted by Disgusting Men. It featured interviews with developers, new games, and three award ceremonies, including the announcement of Keep Calm Do Games festival winners.

One of the live stream highlights was the awarding of the winners of the Unreal Engine Developers Contest Awards. You can find the winners here.

The conference culminated in DevGAMM Awards ceremony. Winners in 8 nominations shared the $10,000 money prize from tinyBuild. This time, Cloudpunk project by the German studio ION LANDS took the Grand Prize.

Parties and more

Two Fridays could only mean one thing: two parties! This time, the conference attendees gathered at Party.Space platform, where they could move around between themed rooms, do an open mic, have fun with friends in a photo booth, and talk at private tables, as well as follow the DevGAMM Awards live stream and enjoy the concert by Stanislav Polesko from Strategic Music studio.

The virtual Career Wall, which was again placed on InGameJob portal, presented the attendees with 147 job opportunities from game industry companies and gathered over 450 applications from the candidates.

DevGAMM Minsk 2019 in Numbers and Emotions

We hit a new record last week: 2300+ gaming industry professionals from over 40 countries visited the DevGAMM conference in Minsk Marriott Hotel and Falcon club on Nov 21-22. This is the most significant number of attendees in DevGAMM history!

Speeches, lectures, and other content

This time we had 70+ talks of different topics. Almost every game development specialist could see something new, find a solution to their problem, learn the experience of other developers, and discover the trends of the industry. The halls were full while amazing speakers from Larian Studios, Imperia Online, Ubisoft, Nintendo, Google, Facebook, 1C Entertainment, Voodoo, Wargaming, Sperasoft, Playrix, Unity, Gameloft, Game Insight, Plarium, MRGV, Saber Interactive and many others were on stage.

You will find the complete schedule on our website. If you are looking for a particular keynote, follow our Youtube channel: we’ll publish all the lectures there, section by section, until the end of 2019.

One of the most useful activities, as our visitors say, were the Roundtables with the industry experts, supported by Wargaming.net.

Open only by pre-registration, for a limited amount of attendees, the roundtables covered the hottest topics of game development, such as hyper-casual games, project management issues, investments and M&A, ad-hoc marketing, and in-app subscriptions.

For those who looked for feedback for their games, we had several different activities:

meetings and workshops with iOS representatives;
game design deconstruction for a broad audience;
pitch reviews by investors.

Those micro-events were also available by pre-registration only, but they are always popular among DevGAMM attendees. Well, can you find a better moment to catch the experts and get their honest feedback on your project?

Let’s add a couple of words about Xplore China Track from Mobvista and their partners. For two hours, the experts of the Chinese market shared their knowledge and analytical insights about games in China. The experiment went well, and the guests were happy! Photos from the event are here.

Parties and networking events

The official Unreal Engine party for Business, Speakers, and Media attendees took place in a new stylish location: OK16 loft space. We’ve organized several areas, including warm Shisha Lounge, two halls with live DJ-set, and a street food area with hip-hop music from the 90s. The guests made funny photos in the photo booth, danced, met new friends, and had a place for in-depth conversations with colleagues.

The tinyBuild pre-party had great success with its annual Poker Tournament and two DJ live sets. Our traditional Bye-Bye Mingle sponsored by Easybrain was the last networking event of the DevGAMM: it was the best moment to have a beer, share the memories, and hug your industry friends (by the way, here are the photos)!

We’ve also organized Girls & Games Lunch supported by Vizor Games. Second-year in a row, we invite 80+ women from the gaming industry to talk openly about work-life balance, leadership, mentorship, and the specifics of the industry. Do you want to know how it looks? Check the photos!

Together with TikTok and Httpool, we’ve organized Speakers and Industry Leaders Dinner at the end of the first day of the conference. The photos are also available on the DevGAMM Facebook page.

Thanks to the PINE Tool app, the DevGAMM attendees meet each other more than 2700 times in different locations of the conference. We had four lounges to meet and have a rest this time. One of the most memorable areas was sponsored by Playgendary team: it was called Quiet Lounge, and it was a perfect space for the guests to work in silence under green trees, play retro-games, or have a little snack.

Games & More

Over 90 games from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and other countries took part in the DevGAMM Showcase within two days. It also featured games of future winners of the DevGAMM Awards: TOHU, Gripper, Get Access, Encased. Projects made with Unreal Engine and Unity engines received support and unique booths from Epic Games and Unity. Also, the Humble Bundle publisher was present at the showcase in an experimental format where anyone could directly contact the company representative at the showcase stand and pitch their game.

Speed Game Dating, a unique activity meant to connect publishers and developers, was improved with a new and more comfortable space. SGD united lots of publishers, including Boombit, Miniclip, TabTale, Cheetah Games, Homa Games, SUPER.COM, Herocraft, tinyBuild, and others.

In Minsk, we awarded the winners of two significant game developers contests: Belkathon hackathon, organized by Belka Games, AppLovin, and Unity; and Unreal Contest by UE4, Disgusting Men, and Kefir.

At every event, we have a Livestream for those who can’t visit DevGAMM. This time it was produced by Disgusting Men focusing on interviews with developers, games, and exclusive stories from the conference. You can watch both days of broadcasting on our Youtube channel (day 1, day 2). Game Insight was the Titanium sponsor of the live stream.

What happened to Game Roast?

The format continues to evolve, and we decided to “turn the game around.” This time, our Awards Producer Taras Zhukov took over the organization of Game Roast. The initial plan featuring the most experienced indie developers during Game Roast and making it Game Roast All-Stars, has turned into a rebellion.

D.W.O., hacking of DevGAMM accounts, “strange” newsletters, weird t-shirts in the official DevGAMM Shop, and the inability to submit a game to Game Roast… All this was part of the big meta-game.

For one hour, the developers mercilessly “roasted” the Experts and their games. Thanks to them, the rules of Game Roast were reconsidered at the stage. Starting from 2020, developers will also have access to the screen during their Defense, and now both Experts and Developers will have 3 minutes to defend the game or to destroy it.

The best is yet to come!

DevGAMM Awards

At the end of the second day, the best games of the conference received awards and cash prizes from sponsors during the DevGAMM Awards. Thanks to our sponsors from Unreal Engine, tinyBuild, Royal Ark, Game Gears, the prize pool of the DevGAMM Awards this time was $30,000. The prize pool was split among all the winners, with the biggest amount for the winners of The Best Game nomination.

438 participants decided to compete for prizes in the DevGAMM Quest and complete the tasks of our sponsors in Minsk! The rewards were worth fighting for, including a Macbook Air, a DJI Mavic Pro quadcopter, a Nintendo Switch, AirPods Pro, an Nvidia RTX 2080 Super graphics card, and other prizes.

The Story of Casper Dragon: New Mascot of DevGAMM

We’re always in search of a new conference hero. This time we wanted to change the course from fluffy creatures to a self-sufficing dragon! To top it off, our awesome DevGAMM community helped us to choose a name for a mascot. We asked for help at our Telegram-chat, and everyone who had cool ideas shared them with us. After that, we made a poll and chose a name within our team. So, please welcome Casper — a new DevGAMM mascot!

Our mascot was created by great artists from outsourcing studio Gamepack! It’s founder, Ruslan Zelensky, was a common artist with a big dream — open his own gaming studio. And soon it will definitely come true

And, right, you’re thinking now “why did they choose a dragon?” The thing is that the guys from Gamepack like monsters a lot, therefore they started to create draft variants.

The artists chose the best variants and started to work on color sketches.

The next step was to find the right character and work on several color versions. After that, it was important to create the right poses for each gaming activity of the conference, as our mascot should reflect the main idea.

Gamepack artists researched a lot of different prototypes. But they couldn’t find only one, therefore they had a lot of references. Here are some of them.

What kind of a dragon Casper is?

Consider Casper a gamer from the world of dragons (why not)! But he is actually the only one who loves games in his inner circle. All other dragons prefer to go for a hunt or into hibernation

Will you advise other artists to design future mascots for DevGAMM?
