Gdańsk 2023
DevGAMM keeps expanding horizons with the first-ever event in Poland. The gorgeous city of Gdańsk was hosting the two-day gamedev conference on March 1-2, 2023. Powered by Digital Vikings, the event gathered 567 professionals from 38 countries and 109 cities. Take a look at how it was.
Content
56 speakers from 15 countries delivered their newest and most insightful talks. The keynote sessions included presentations by:
- Rami Ismail, Consultant, ex-Vlambeer
- Jon Carnage, tinyBuild
- Fawzi Mesmar, Game Designer & Author
- Mariusz Gasiewski, Google
- Henrique Olifiers, Bossa Games
You can find some of the slides from the talks here, and session recordings will be available on YouTube within a few months.
Games
31 games from 11 countries were showcased at the event. They gathered a lot of attention from publishers, major brands, and regular spectators. But that wasn’t all!
This time, we joined forces with Digital Vikings, who held their first contest for indie games. Out of more than 400 submissions, the nominees were selected for 6 categories, and the winners were revealed at DevGAMM Gdańsk.
Against the Storm by Eremite Games was announced the winner in Best Indie Game of 2022. Apart from the main categories, a special Best Indie Publisher nomination was awarded to tinyBuild.
Moreover, Digital Vikings event on Steam with over 100 games collected over 3.2 mln impressions and over 40K reads.
Networking
The Expo hosted a few dozens of booths with engaging activities. Representatives of tinyBuild, Vixa Games, Ten Square Games, Sperasoft, Belka Games, Easybrain, and other great companies were there to promote, exchange ideas, and hire new people.
PINE was in charge of the Meeting Area, with over 922 scheduled sessions of business conversations.
Attendees’ favorite networking event – the party – trippled this time, as we’ve had three of those! It all started with Badge Pick-Up Pre-Party on the eve of the conference, where all attendees met each other.
The first day ended with the Main Party for BUSINESS, SPEAKER, and MEDIA ticket holders. And it was a blast!
Sponsored by tinyBuild, the conference finished with Bye-Bye Mingle at the Expo Area. This was a friendly get-together with those survivors of all the event activities and lots of promises to see each other next time at DevGAMM.
Special Events and Activities
Charity Auction and Reception becomes a new tradition at DevGAMM. After the successful introduction last year, this new edition was sponsored by Electric Blue. Unique items were purchased by the highest bidders, thus helping us raise over $10K, which were donated to Zgraya and Hospitallers funds helping Ukrainians who suffer from the war.
Career Wall powered by InGame Job and Values Value featured 125 vacancies at top game dev companies such as G5 Games, Ten Square Games, BoomBit, and many others.
DevGAMM Quest was the funniest activity for the event attendees. 127 participants completed the tasks at expo booths. They got a chance to win Nintendo OLED, Drone DJI Mini 2, Instax camera, Nerf Gun, and other fabulous prizes from tinyBuild, Belka Games, Sperasoft, and other conference partners.
Game Roast was re-imagined this time. The audience was to face off DevGAMM’s most passionate supporters in a series of challenges. The experts were Jon Carnage, Michael Kuzmin, Rami Ismail, and Alexey Davydov. This signature show was hosted by Alex Nichiporchik.
If you wonder what the hell does a hamster have to do with the game dev conference, let us introduce you to Biscuit – a happy and cheerful mascot of the Gdańsk event. He was created by DevGAMM’s very talented in-house designer Lina Rykhlitskaya.
We’d like to take a moment to thank all the sponsors and conference partners. None of it would’ve been possible without the support from tinyBuild, Vixa Games, Ten Square Games, Sperasoft, Belka Games, QuartSoft Games, PingCAP, Adjust, EPAM, Boombit. HireForYou, Edvice, Archibaldi Studio, devtodev, Bossa, Easybrain, Rage Quit Games, Electric Blue, InvestGDA, AmberExpo, Gdańsk Patronat Honorowy, MWP-Marshal, Park Naukowo Technologiczny, inGame Job, Values Value, PINE, NIKO firm.
Don’t forget to tag your friends and peers on the photos from the event:
