Session: Roberto Lopez Mendez and Mobile VR

By | News | No Comments

The hype around VR is not going anywhere anytime soon. More and more developers are looking into  development for different VR devices. If you are interested in creating mobile VR experiences, then the following session if for you.

Roberto Lopez Mendez from ARM is coming to DevGAMM Moscow to deliver a talk called  “Optimized Rendering Techniques for Mobile VR”

VR rendering pushes the hardware to the limits and rendering shadows and reflections in VR is challenging. The talk presents highly optimized rendering techniques for shadows and reflections in mobile VR and considers the importance of rendering stereo reflections in VR. Roberto will demonstrate how to implement stereo reflections in Unity.

In this session Roberto will introduce the concept of local cubemaps and will explain how to implement a new shadow rendering technique based on local cubemaps. This technique allows rendering very efficient and high quality shadows, which makes it very suitable for mobile VR.

Background

New conference format introduces Indie Day and a new, global Fast Track. Hideo Kojima and Tim Sweeney among the main speakers

The organisers of the thirteenth edition of the Nordic Game conference, taking place on 18-20 May 2016 in Malmö, Sweden, are happy to announce that the most relevant games industry conference in Europe will be the best NG so far.

“We look at NG16 as sort of a reboot of the conference. It’s still all about building knowledge, sharing emotions and evolving business, but we have focused heavily on tweaking some essential parts of the show – while maintaining the elements that we know people love and define as the special Nordic Game experience,” says Nordic Game Resources CEO Erik Robertson. “We have high hopes of this being the best Nordic Game thus far and to celebrate, we have some great discount offers for early registrants.”

Goodbye Indie Night, Hello Indie Day!

The biggest overall change to the NG format is that the popular Indie Night event has been expanded to an entire Nordic Indie Day. On 20 May, the final day of the show will be dedicated to the vibrant indie scene of the Nordic region and abroad. Created in cooperation with Copenhagen Game Collective, the program will include a strong speaker line-up, a special pitch concept called the Nordic Game Discovery Session (http://nordicgame.com/call-to-indies-ng16-indie-discovery-session), plus a big showcase of new and exciting indie games, culminating with a final NG16 after-party in the evening. Also as a new feature, you can buy a special, discounted ticket for Nordic Indie Day only.

Fast Track goes global

A major part of the conference program on 18-20 May, Fast Track is a series of talks designed to create a direct connection between developers and the Nordic Game conference audience – featuring short, useful and to-the-point sessions. For the first time, Nordic Game Fast Track submissions will also be accepted from developers outside the Nordic region – making speaking slot competition fiercer than ever and raising the quality of the talks as a consequence.

NG16 for you

Besides these new elements, NG16 will contain all of the familiar features which makes the event truly Nordic Game: A strong program with some of the best speakers (legendary designer Hideo Kojima, and Tim Sweeney, the father of the Unreal engine, are among them) from the global games industry to inspire you and make you think, a string of refined networking events such as the Gala Dinner and the renowned Nordic party to ensure that you mingle with old friends as well as connect with new peers from the industry. And parallel to this, an enhanced version of the Pitch & Match meeting and matchmaking system, to guarantee an even better breeding ground for business during the conference. All this, and of course, much, much more 🙂

In the coming weeks, loads of exciting details regarding NG16 will be revealed, so join the Nordic Community now at nordicgame.com to make sure to be among the first to know.
